U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, Former Acting Gov. Mark Singel Endorse Doug Pike

Ardmore, PA -- Today, Pike for Congress announced that U.S. Rep. Bob Brady (D-PA), former Acting Governor Mark Singel, and 3 other Democratic leaders from Chester and Berks counties have endorsed Doug Pike in the race for the 6th Congressional District.

"For 14 years at the Philadelphia Inquirer, Doug Pike was a strong advocate for change in Southeastern Pennsylvania," said Rep. Brady. "In the face of historic economic challenges, Pennsylvania's working families need more champions like Doug in Washington to create good jobs and fix our broken health care system. Doug will be an outstanding Congressman for all of Southeastern Pennsylvania."

In addition, Pike for Congress is announcing the endorsements of:

Former Acting Pennsylvania Governor Mark Singel
Berks County Democratic Vice-Chair Darlington Hoopes
Chester County Democratic Secretary Adam Thomas
Phoenixville Council President Henry Wagner

"It is a real honor to have the support of so many strong Democratic leaders like Chairman Brady and Governor Singel in my campaign to represent the 6th District," said Doug Pike. "I look forward to working with them as a member of Congress to create jobs, fix our broken health care system, and make sure every child from every background receives a quality education."

Since 1998, Rep. Brady has represented Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, which includes parts of Philadelphia and Delaware Counties. In 2007, he was elected Chairman of the House Administration Committee. Rep. Brady is also a member of the Armed Services Committee.

Mark Singel was the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania under Governor Bob Casey and served as Acting Governor from June 14, 1993, to December 13, 1993. Singel is also a past chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.

These endorsements come on the heels of 4 new labor endorsements announced last week, which brought the total number of labor unions endorsing or financially supporting Pike for Congress to 11.

Labor Endorsements: Bricklayers Local 5, Elevator Constructors Local 5, Ironworkers Local 420, United Mine Workers of America (COMPAC), Operating Engineers Local 542, American Postal Workers Union Local 89, Sheet Metal Workers Local 19, Amalgamated Transit Workers Local 1345, James Weyrauch, President of AFGE Local 644 and Vice-President of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.

Doug Pike served on the Editorial Board of The Philadelphia Inquirer for 14 years and he served as the president of a hospital for 10 years. Previously, Pike served as a Special Assistant and Speechwriter for U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas. In 1971, Pike graduated with honors from Princeton University. He lives in Montgomery County.

The 6th District encompasses parts of Berks, Chester, Lehigh, and Montgomery Counties.
