Pike: Gerlach Cannot Campaign On Fiscal Responsibility
Ardmore, PA - Republican Congressman Jim Gerlach has leveled a series of brazenly false attacks on Doug Pike, claiming a mantle of fiscal responsibility. Here is Doug Pike's response:
"We are not going to take any lectures on fiscal responsibility from someone who voted for the irresponsible Bush budgets that started this mess."
"I've run a business and balanced budgets, while Jim Gerlach has busted budgets year after year, eight years running. We've had enough of his name-calling politics."
"But we have come to expect this from Gerlach. He is someone who has chosen the path of a politician pleasing his donors and political bosses, instead of working to help regular Americans improve their lives."
"On health care reform, Gerlach must have missed the news: the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected that the new reform law will reduce deficits by over $1 trillion in the next 20 years."
"Now is the time for serious leadership on tough challenges like jobs and the economy, Wall Street reform, and fiscal responsibility."
Doug Pike served on the Editorial Board of The Philadelphia Inquirer for 14 years, providing insight and analysis on a broad range of public policy for southeast Pennsylvania. He also served as President of a hospital for 10 years. Previously, Pike served as a Special Assistant and Speechwriter for U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas. In 1971, Pike graduated with honors from Princeton University. He resides in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County.
